About myself
I studied chemical engineering and process engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) from 2011 to 2017. During my bachelor's degree, I dealt with food processing technology as part of a major subject and had first contacts in my bachelor thesis with the numerical simulation of processes. I completed my master's degree in food process engineering and thermal process engineering with a master's thesis at the Institute of Food Process Engineering in the field of extrusion.
Meanwhile, I am a research scientist at the Institute of Food Process Engineering in the field of high-pressure homogenization.
Research interests
I am currently working on the investigation of velocity fields in orifices of high-pressure homogenizers in order to calculate locally resolved shear, strain and Raynold stresses. To investigate the influence of these stresses on the droplets in the emulsion, the deformed droplets are additionally visualized in the process. In particular, the influence of the trajectory of the drops and the scalability of the process should be investigated.
Equipment
In order to be able to visualize the flow in the orifices experimentally, I use a μ-PIV (Micro-Particle Image Velocimetry) from Dantec with a microscope from Leica and optically accessible orifices which are specially made for this process. In addition, many analytical methods for the characterization of drop collectives and emulsions are available, so that the droplet size distribution, flow and interface behavior of the used systems can be described in detail.
