Research associate / PhD candidate (f/m/d) on innovative process modeling in biopharmaceutical process development

The project work within the scope of this job posting will focus on innovative process modeling approaches with the potential to transform the future of biopharmaceutical process development. You will work on advanced methodologies designed to optimize process design and enhance efficiency, contributing to progress in pharmaceutical manufacturing.  The work of this exciting project will be carried in the lab of Prof. Jürgen Hubbuch, in close collaboration with the Downstream Process Development team at Boehringer Ingelheim.

The Institute of Process Engineering in Life Sciences (BLT) - Section IV: Molecular Processing of Bioproducts (MAB) pursues research in the field of downstream processing of bioproducts especially of pharmaceuticals. We deal with all aspects of modern purification, formulation and analytics in the biopharmaceutical industry.

If eligible, you will join the PhD program at the KIT Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, where you have the option to complete a PhD.

Persönliche Qualifikation

  • You have an excellent master’s degree in (bio)chemical engineering, or related fields (e.g., mathematics, (bio)physics, (bio)process engineering).
  • A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and industrial collaboration is required.
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python, VBA) and familiarity with machine learning and statistical data analysis is relevant.
  • Experience with flow sheet modeling is advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of biopharmaceutical process development; process analytical technologies (PAT) and common analytical methods for biopharmaceuticals will be an advantage.
  • Candidates are expected to work independently and collaboratively in an international research environment.
  • A commitment to producing high-quality scientific publications is relevant.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English is required.
  • Knowledge of German language is desirable.

Note: At the effective starting date of the contract, applicants must not have been awarded with a PhD.
